iPhone…iMoan!!!

July 3rd, 2007

Let’s begin with the pleasantries….

The iPhone is the real deal. Like the iPod and most everything Apple produces, is porn for designers. It is Alexander Graham Bell meets Bauhaus. One might say that it is “form following function.” Yet, its form undeniably wears the pants.

I have heard quite a few comments regarding the iPhone’s shortcomings. Sure, there are a few things that might have been included in its function like iChat, mms, Flash, video recording, etc. However I am confident that this phone will evolve through regular updates. In fact there is already scuttlebutt about some of the upcoming features to be pushed onto the phone.

Dream Recorder

June 11th, 2007

I recently came across a cool little application for the Mac that everyone with a MacBook should have. If you have always wondered what you do in your sleep, then Dream Recorder is just for you.

Dream Recorder running on your MacBook allows you to take a time-lapse movie of your sleep. Using the built in iSight, it will take a snapshot every minute or so and compile them into a movie in the morning. It also features a voice activated audio recorder to capture any sounds you might make.

Sleep graphBut it gets more interesting. During the night it analyzes the apparent movements from capture to capture and shows you a timeline of your deep sleep cycles (unscientifically). By looking at these cycles, you can then program the application to play any audio during that time in the future. The idea is to try and influence your dreams from the audio (lucid dreaming). So if you have a soundscape of frogs, you might want to see if it causes you to dream about frogs during the night. If you are prone to lucid dreaming, then this would have endless personal growth possibilites.

Another cool feature is being able to just wake up from a dream and talk about it–with the app acting as a notepad to remember in the morning. That way you don’t need to get out the pen and paper to not forget them when you wake.

Dream Recorder has many user settings and even a progressive alarm clock to ease you back into reality. This application is a fun way to discover your dreams.

Here is a short example of me sleeping along with a few funny audio clips including me “talking to someone on the phone”, strange singing, part of a yelp and “barking” at my dog in my sleep.
